About the practice

Two members of the Blignaut & Kotze practice team at the reception counter.

Periodontics and oral medicine, together in one practice.

Periodontists treat the structures that support the teeth — the gums, the bone, and the soft tissues between. Oral medicine specialists diagnose and manage conditions of the oral mucosa: ulcers, lichen planus, dry mouth, suspicious lesions, biopsies.

Most periodontal practices do not formally cover both. Dr Christa Blignaut and Dr Leande Kotze do. For referring dentists, that means one specialist practice for two parallel sets of cases. For patients, it means the person who diagnoses the problem is the person who treats it.
